18 Inches, By: Steven Mcdonald

18 Inches, By: Steven Mcdonald

Life’s great dilemma
We all can relate
Doubt and second guessing
A too common trait

It’s 18 inches
From the head to the heart
Where I end up
Is not where I start

Should I do that
Or should I do this?
Will it end in regret
Or exceptional bliss?

Is it better for them
Or does it serve me?
Will the fog disappear
So now I can see?

The decision I know
I have to make
Will it lay a foundation
Or will it break?

Out of the evils
Is this the lesser of two?
Uncertainty prevails
Oh, what shall I do?

The mind can be tricky
It’s been known to tell lies
I can’t count on myself
To see through the guise

One thing’s for sure
If I have to decide
I’m going to need
A spiritual guide

I want to be kind
And I want to be nice
The two aren’t the same
My best bet is advice

Send a prayer up
Or ask a friend I respect
The answer may not be
What I want or expect

I don’t hear a booming
Thunderous voice
When the time arrives
To make my choice

What I get instead
Is a sense of peace
Knowing that finally
The noise has deceased
