Let Me Check, By: Hiram Larew

Let Me Check, By: Hiram Larew

As strange as it may
Seem pull-apart bread means
More to me now than ever —
More than even sleep

I may not realize it while
I’m dozing but
I’ve become truly dependent upon
Anything spreading out far and wide that
Started all together

Like smoke does when
It leaves chimneys yes
I learn a lot from
Rising and parting

But I’ve also seen when
Parting can mean trouble and
Is out of place like
Big hands are on curtains

And I’ve also been warned to
Come down to earth some
And focus

Which is hard to do
And feels wrong when
Grapes float by me and
Grin one by one as
They head out the window
