The Bottom Shelf, By: Davie Cox

September 13, 2024 by Davie Cox

The Bottom Shelf, By: Davie Cox

I could feel it
Something changing
Hot flashes
Loss of balance
And the occasional urge to fight.
The change..
That wasn’t mine..
It was hers.
Dog
Fat
Dog hungry
Dog eats sleeps and shits.
No blood.
Not anymore.
Still..
It’s hard
Hard to sleep
Hard eat
But shitting was easy.
Often too easy.
The odd stable day and the realistic expectations of a broken dream..
Dreams they went to the dogs a while back.
Not my dog.
It’s metaphorical.
Now it’s just nightmares
Haunted rooms, toilets and kitchens.
Gardens too.
It didn’t matter.. it was all suppressed by the mistakes that come with time. One way out.
The only way.
Time
Time to think and feel.
Time to say sorry
Time to feed the dog
To sleep
Eat
And shit.
And then just go again.
That’s it.
