a poem for 9/11
How do we live
In such a day
When hateful souls
Steal hope away?
Where man-made mountains
Topple down,
And wishful fountains
Mark the ground
Where loved ones’
Memories float around
On every prayer
that’s whispered there?
How do we sing
When our breath was stilled
By frightful people
With hearts so chilled?
No fire of love,
No human care,
Those scornful ways
They acted there
By ripping airplanes
From the air
To resting places
hallowed now.
Heroes proven
By their choice
To give their liberty
final voice,
“Love will triumph
Over hate,
Our common faith
Despite our fate!”
Forever may it resonate
Where live the brave
And breathe the free.
Endureth hope
Where people say
That evil will not
Have its way.
We band together,
Hand in hand,
And ask the Lord
To heal our land.
We place our light
On highest stand
So all will know
that right prevails.
