The Beauty Of Waiting: A Poem About Allison, By: Andrew Cyr

March 28, 2025 by Andrew Cyr

The Beauty Of Waiting: A Poem About Allison, By: Andrew Cyr

I’m waiting for nothing
to change my mind,

and the perfect reason
to accept the flaws
that shaped me,
without reservation
for empathy for silly me.

I’m waiting for life
to love me again.

I’m waiting for my faults
that fell through a creek
like stardust.

But Allison is something
that I can’t find the patience
to invite inside my cluttered life.

I think about it
about asking her
into my life
I think about it.

What I’d say
dances on my lips.

It’s always on my mind
like a confession concealed
by a salty grin.

Allison smoked on a slender
stick that simmered between
her thin fingers on the stoop.

I’m waiting for nothing
to change my mind
because it’s already settled
its attention to Allison.

I’m waiting for nothing
because she’s sleeping
on my chest in our bedroom.

I’m still waiting for a reason, for God
to answer why on earth I deserve her.
Allison told me the wait was over.
