Lullaby of Betrayal, By: Lauren Brenner

March 20, 2026 by Lauren Brenner

Lullaby of Betrayal, By: Lauren Brenner

At the edge of the day
at the will of the wise
she captured some words
from the shade of his eyes

that rendered a song
wrapped in tender goodbyes
to the tune of
a bittersweet lullaby

with midnight approaching
the stars in the sky
paid homage and flame
to a soulful reprise

but scandal proved fortune
was smothered in lies
where the perilous edge
of her boundaries reside

then hidden away
where the mockingbird flies
the tears of her dreams
formed a salty disguise

At the edge of the day
in the crypts of her eyes
lived a woeful betrayal
of lovers demise
