Coffee Shop Girl, By: Mario Kersey

May 14, 2024 by Mario Kersey

Coffee Shop Girl, By: Mario Kersey

Quiet girl in the corner
Watching cat videos
Shivers with laughter
as those around her work
as if they’re getting paid.
What is the home life
which makes your laughter hardy?
Possibilities dance as curiosity unfurls
into a tapestry of your hidden life
Writ large in my private fantasy
as the impulse to disturb you
grows, but I stifle it for fear of facts
Telling a truth I don’t want to hear.
So, I’ll be envious of her insouciance
Secure that someone is stress free
And present which is a gift
I can enjoy from a distance,
Sipping tepid iced coffee.
