I had more to say
about what I said
before a flood swayed
my heart with subtle
rivers of love.
The tide carried soft ripples
to an earshot of a whisper,
pleading for peace,
but indifference surfaced
and bloodlust reared
its ugly head.
Those hunkered in for shelter
saw a flash before they lost their lives.
Still, love coursed through my veins
for the sick in spirit and those buried
beneath rubble to be recognized
as only a number for the evening news.
Hope within me wins over prayers
for the brokenhearted, hoping
humanity finds its light sound
in the innocence of the Son.
