Oscar Wilde Poems

Poetry Catalog Poets

Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) is remembered for his comedies and epigrams, but he began and ended as a poet. This collection gathers his published verse in the public domain: the lush, Pre-Raphaelite Poems of 1881, the Impressionist city pieces like “Symphony in Yellow” and “Impression du Matin,” the decadent incantation of The Sphinx, the Newdigate Prize poem Ravenna, and his last and greatest work, The Ballad of Reading Gaol, written after two years’ hard labour.

Read a fuller life sketch on our About Oscar Wilde page. This Poetry Catalog archive gathers 85 poems by Wilde now live on the site—listed alphabetically below, with links to each full text. The texts follow the 1913 Methuen edition edited by Robert Ross, and new poems are added to this list as they are published.
