Prison Teacher, By: Steven Mcdonald

January 12, 2024 by Steven Mcdonald

Prison Teacher, By: Steven Mcdonald

Classroom of
killers,
rapists and thieves
Hope they got
no plan up their sleeves

Manipulation masters
Observe like a hawk
Their gait is a saunter
A rooster-like walk

There are those
Who want to learn
And others released
Soon to return

Some have tats
Covering their face
Be wary
They value
Their personal space

Their cases
They love
To tell me about
I nod my head
But the pencils I count

Some of these guys
Were doomed at birth
Many of them
Have no self worth

Positive reinforcement
Goes a long way
Their eyes light up
With looks of dismay

You passed the test!
You do good work!
“I just got lucky”
They say
With a smirk

I plan the lessons
For their behalf
Always make sure
To get a laugh

I teach with humor
Make learning fun
It works for most
Not everyone

I always try to
Lighten the mood
But some dark eyes
Just stare and brood

Some new teachers
Wannabe saviors
I say “Good luck,
Just do no favors!”

Watch your back
And do your best
The biggest rewards
Don’t come from the tests!”
