Scissortail Oklahoma State Bird, By: Mary Bone

January 31, 2024 by Mary Bone

Scissortail Oklahoma State Bird, By: Mary Bone

Slicing through the air
with a scissor-like tail,
prominent and regal-
master of all he surveys.
He watches while we gather sugar plums
that is made into the finest jams in southern Oklahoma.
Children gather pecans below,
under his watchful eye.
I can still see the scissortail gliding.
wild and free, as we look on in wonderment.
