sMother, By: David Mathers

May 16, 2024 by David Mathers

sMother, By: David Mathers

It’s taken me 37 years to realise.
You cannot have the word smother without the word mother.
Now mum…
You never once hurt us but you’d always suffocate us with your love and affection.
All the times you kissed me
All the times you hugged me.
All the times you told me that you loved me.
It was never for you…. but all for me.
The times you told us off, was just a lesson. Never be afraid to cry, it’s just an emotion like aggression.
Now…
my anger sits… buried deep inside,
I’m mad at other people who have their mothers by their side.
A feeling of envy I’ve hidden behind the tide,
This isn’t how I want to feel,
As a wave of emotions wash over me. Carries me back to reality.
I wish you all immortality
To live forever on these green and pleasant lands.
To have your loved ones forever and never feel the coldness of their hands.

I think about what my mum would say if she was here Infront of me.

Come son into my arms and don’t be afraid to cry. Only the brave wear their hearts on their sleeves and I can see that you’re torn up inside.
Hush now don’t say a word,
let your tears roll down your cheek.
I will hold you, now and forever
until my heart doesn’t beat.

Dads are great but mums are the best.
