Spring Snow, By: Vicki Thomas

April 10, 2024 by Vicki Thomas

Spring Snow, By: Vicki Thomas

White flakes fall
onto soft green grass
warm skies of grey clouds
swarm
low overhead
as light creeps into night
disrupting the darkness

War looms
continents away from
my safe haven
where COVID threats
kept me inside
and alive
and made me question
not just a few things
about how to exist
and live and survive
and be

War threatens
continents away
from my safe haven
where words lie heavy
and are deconstructed
as corpses as we watch
and listen to the
autopsies conducted on live tv
and make me question
not just a few things
about how to exist
and live and survive
and be

War spreads
continents away from
my safe haven
where $$$$ don’t stretch
and my options
squeeze my choices
and I don’t question
why my spirits don’t soar
as COVID threats drop
like a stone
even as prices soar
for the things we need
just
to live and survive
and be

War happens
continents away from
my safe haven
where live tv
shows the chaos of war
in splashes and flashes
of tanks and armor and shells
(not from the sea though)
and I’m thankful for
*what*
I have for now
that could be taken
in the spring
as soft snow falls
on bright green grass
and gray skies reflect
storms
that brew where
War happens.
