The Sea, By: Steven Mcdonald

August 13, 2025 by Steven Mcdonald

The Sea, By: Steven Mcdonald

The way its mist sprays from the wake
Formidable force that will give and take

Gazing out from beyond the bow
Mesmerized in the here and now

Sunrise sizzles and melts away
No better place to exalt a day

Lips stained with the taste of salt
Friend and foe it’s not her fault

Some days calm and so serene
But mood swings bring a wrath marine

Shimmering blue, tremendous and wide
Deep below dark secrets hide

Waves break with a windswept foam
Where sea and sand make a home

Pounding the beach with a steady slap
An unseen force then pulls her back

She brings joy and she brings fear
On eerie nights and days so clear

She’ll kiss the shore with a mouth of grace
And devour ships without a trace

Rain or shine I can’t turn away
I’ll watch this until my dying day

This peace and violent dichotomy
Is the miracle we call THE SEA
