Wary Lovers, By: Hiram Larew

October 20, 2023 by Hiram Larew

Wary Lovers, By: Hiram Larew

Just then when miles deep down
   and piled highs meet
When what’s under the underworld
Greets all that’s above and beyond the moon —
   as these worlds say hi
   like wary lovers —
Is when vast extremes and all aparts
   kiss me

And just then again and again
If the work to do seems endless
   over there but also here
There’s at least this —
I can hear a cherished sound
of hoping for
Be it in outer space or molten core

Yes from stars of wind to bedrock songs
I trust them all —
Especially those magma skies
and their verge that calls me

All this in fact
   as distance blends what’s strange
   in me
   with all that’s known
Like wishes
