Wolf, By: Neal Grace

January 22, 2024 by Neal Grace

Wolf, By: Neal Grace

Swiftly dashing along a snowy forest floor
under the luminosity of an incandescent moon,
past barren trees and conical pines,
weaving through ravines and glacial mountains
reaching for celestial lights—wolf!

Intrepid beast of the lurid night!
Lupine creature of a mysterious world!
Survivor of inconsolable winters!

What passion propels you onward?
What fiery spirit lives in your lean body?

Swiftly into the frozen rawness of the wild,
piercing the diaphanous eye of existence
with your savage freedom—wolf!

The heat of your breath throws white mist
into the cold night.

Howl the victory of life into the silent night.
Howl, howl, Lord of the Pristine North!

The stars are listening!
