Joy, By: Grant Shimmin

June 27, 2024 by Grant Shimmin

Joy, By: Grant Shimmin

The sound of joy is a chorus
Not sung by a choir, sheet music in hand
conductor-controlled,
slick entries, crisp exits
tight harmonies
Though that does make joy rise
in the singing, the hearing
Makes tears spring in eyes’ corners
and shivers scale spines

The sound of joy is a chorus
played by the gradually unveiling dawn
Full-throated songs lifted by the arriving sun
Solos, ensembles,
instinctive. unscripted
Announcements and boasts,
declarations, reproaches… of note
And the silent presence felt
of those who once walked alongside
The sound of joy is a chorus unconfined
