A Fishy Catch, By: Andrew Cyr

A Fishy Catch, By: Andrew Cyr

Mason tagged Penelope
on a dating app,
and three years later,
Penelope told Mason he was it
before their family and friends
at an altar in a white gazebo.
It was a sleepy Saturday afternoon.
The couple had their feet propped
on the maple table
as they peered over the balcony.
Penelope sipped chilled vitamin water
from a frosty glass with rocks
and a splash of rum.
Lake Erie folded over itself.
The sun reflected shades of orange
hues off the rippling water.
Mason and Penelope
knew what most lovers
who visited First Date’s Fish & Chips
didn’t know.
The lake moved over itself,
drifting a salty scent,
and fish that bite lines on poles
for meals with sweethearts deals,
delicate lust parsed confidence
in women wearing red dresses
and Persian skin.
This lake gives life and love,
and it started with a dating app.
Penelope bit her bottom lip
and gave him a hungry look.
Mason had plenty to feed
her on the barbecue
and between their silk sheets.
