Cowboys Of The Sky, By: Erik Iverson

Grampa was top welder in a John Deere factory
Leading men in his trade being all that he could be
I knew when I was young I would be a man like him
Burning them magic wands but building on the jungle’s gyms
Starting on the ground with lining out the spots
Where every column stands learning quick to call the shots
Raising columns one by one in the burning Texas sun
Working hard until the light of every day was done
A forest of columns stand now need beams to start the second floor
And a tradesman with perfectionist passion has a job he adores
Tool belt heavy with pointed steel to line up holes
Connecting first side then crossing over without falling is the goal
With the beams all connected bolted into place
The joist come in bundles get spread no time to waste
Welding both sides tight doing it all right
Then the bridging angle begins and the dance with He of sins
Dancing with the devil way up in the sky
Some days battling titans hitting in the blink of an eye
We are elite the fearless building structures to protect
Women and children in We have the know how to connect
Dancing with the devil on the straight and narrow we pray
We hit the ground down the ladder at the end of every day
Dancing with the devil on a path most men would shit
Themselves attempting to follow at a crawl terrified at every bit
Of the movement and forces way up in the air
Locking up clenching pry it off tight needing rescued as they scare
College boys back off You can’t touch this best beware
Bridging welded in arrow straight perimeter angles alike
Now ready for the decking to be spread on such a dangerous hike
After that is the next floor where everything’s the same
No cowards allowed in the raising gang Ironworkers play this game
When topping out the structure the last beam is in place
A Christmas tree is set thanking Christ we get to face
The challenge of another day enslaved to the human race
We take our time clear our mind and find another slab
Ready with the iron talking to the crab
In the foreman’s boots a dancing blueprints in his hand
Gathering up his raising gang of the bravest in the land
Goddess help US teach the rest how to feel with the heart and stand
For truth and justice and honor in this and every land
Be the man who knows she’s sacred every woman of this Earth
As you knock her up y’alls child creates until she opens for the magic birth
Of another who I……..know is higher in order than even me up in the sky
Protecting women and children in a persuasively humble eye
