Navigating Love: When Calls Go Unanswered, By: Andrew Cyr

Navigating Love: When Calls Go Unanswered, By: Andrew Cyr

I sought to nourish my spirit
After she missed my call.
I was stuck on empty, running scared.
When I became invisible to Lucia,
I lost sleep over it, tossing in my thoughts.
Lucia said she loved me naked in bed.
She saw right through me.
My tongue danced behind my lips,
Biting the words that I couldn’t chew.
Memory’s damned us between sheets.
I was easy to ignore when she thought
Lucia had me wrapped around her finger.
But I was more than her doormat.
Lucia couldn’t see it, though.
And I didn’t see it, either.
The lies that she told herself,
Hoping I’d turn my car around
And meet on common ground.
But unlike Lucia,
Cars paid me attention on the freeway.
I got her attention.
Lucia sees me through glassy eyes.
Her tears pleaded for mercy.
Lucia’s excuses were few,
But her apologies drifted through a window.
I can give her what we can’t see.
Lucia’s clothes hit the maple floor.
I thanked her for seeing the best in me.
A missed call doesn’t mean goodbye.
