Cheese, By: Sistah Joy Alford

May 10, 2024 by Sistah Joy Alford

Cheese, By: Sistah Joy Alford

Glorious or otherwise
She rarely stands alone.

Any world-class chef or socialite
Party-goer or pizza lover will attest

That this gustatory delight can transform even
Common culinary events into sensational soirees.

Frequently headlining with her partner, wine,
She masks her pungent scent with his aromatic

Bouquet. Despite reigning supreme at many elegant
Affairs, she is most often humiliated by photographers

Who urge their subjects by countdown to shout her name
In unison. How very degrading, demoralizing, depressing,

Almost enough to melt even the most respectable,
Robust, and odoriferous cheese back to milk!

[This is a Featured Poem from our Spring 2024 Poetry Contest.]
