J. Joy "Sistah Joy" Matthews Alford, is the Prince George's County, Maryland Poet Laureate Emerita (2018-2023) and has authored 3 collections of poems. She produces and hosts the poetry-based cable television program, Sojourn with Words. For the past 20 years she has served as President of the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church Poetry Ministry. In 1996, she founded Collective Voices, an ensemble of poets known the messages of social consciousness who have performed in the U.S. and in the U.K.
