Retirement, By: Teresa Byrne

July 29, 2024 by Teresa Byrne

Retirement, By: Teresa Byrne

I recently decided to retire as a cook
Some people thought I might write a book
I worked in that kitchen for many a day
We discussed lots of things and all had their say

To go to work it was a pleasure
Now it’s all about the leisure
I’ll borrow a pram and go for a walk
Maybe I’ll meet someone to talk

When Sunday comes I’ll roast a duck
The family will enjoy with a bit of luck
I’ll make lemon drizzle, apple crumble and cream
Then rest for a while, perhaps I’ll dream

I got cards and gifts and messages galore
The staff and the residents couldn’t do more
Now I don’t know what’s in store
Hope healthiness is to the fore

So thank you to all who was part of my past
Life’s wonderful now I hope it will last
I treasure the friends I’ve made on the way
I’m sure we will meet for a coffee someday.
