TWO CHOICES, By: Steven Mcdonald

July 11, 2024 by Steven Mcdonald

Two Choices, By: Steven Mcdonald

THE STORY ISN’T NEW, IT’S ALWAYS THE SAME
IT STARTS WITH FUN AND ENDS IN SHAME

IT BEGINS WITH THE INFAMOUS, “JUST ONE DRINK”
IT NEVER ENDS UP THE WAY I THINK

THE NIGHT STARTS FUN, DRESSED TO THE NINES
ENDS UP RUNNING OUT OF LINES

JUST A FEW BUCKS, THERE GOES MY CHECK
PEELING ME OUT OF SOME CAR WRECK

MY MIND IS AMAZING THE WAY IT LIES
I ALWAYS END UP WITH THE SAME OLD PRIZE

BLACK EYES, MISS WORK, AND A BLOODY NOSE
IT NEVER FAILS, THAT’S THE WAY IT GOES

YOU’D THINK BY NOW I’D FIGURE IT OUT
THERE WOULDN’T BE A SINGLE SHRED OF DOUBT

I CAN’T DRINK SAFELY AND THAT’S A FACT
TROUBLE AND PAIN IS WHAT I ATTRACT

THE PARTYS BEEN OVER FOR QUITE SOME TIME
AGAIN AND AGAIN I’VE BEEN SHOWED THE SIGN

AIN’T NO WAY THIS IS EVER GONNA WORK
TIME TO WAKE UP AND PUT AWAY THAT SMIRK

I HAD TWO CHOICES, RECOVER OR DIE
ON A HIGHER POWER I HAD TO RELY

BY MYSELF I HAVE NO CHANCE
THOSE DARK THOUGHTS I WILL ROMANCE

I’M GRATEFUL I MADE IT TO THIS SEAT
BECAUSE THOSE THAT DIDN’T ARE OBSOLETE
