War, By: Steven Mcdonald

War, By: Steven Mcdonald

On Monday night, April 15th in 1985
Two gladiators met in a ring
They barely got out alive

The fans they were in for a treat
They had no idea what was in store
When the bell for round one rang
Strategy was thrown out the door

A boxer they called the Hitman
Whose right hand was hard as stone
He broke it on Hagler’s bald head
But Marvin barely groaned

Marvelous had a chin of steel
Took everything that Tommy had
A cut opened above his eye
And it just made him mad

The two men traded savage blows
Fighting toe to toe
The crowd was roaring on their feet
Heavy hands continued to throw

Watching this spectacle, one had to wonder,
How long could they last?
Both fighters were in their prime
But someone had to gas

Tommy wanted Marvin’s belt
It was the final prize
But Brockton’s son made it clear
He was not like other guys

Marvin was the middleweight champ
His road was tough and long
If you planned on taking his belt
You’d better be more than strong

In round three this battle ends
Tommy spun around the ring
He fell out like a light
Marvelous remained the king!
