Whistled, By: Hiram Larew

November 3, 2023 by Hiram Larew

Whistled, By: Hiram Larew

Rake the bell-green hillsides
     as time glows with sounds

And roll up sleeves
     to trust forever’s sake

Slant this favor’s light
     this hay’s beginning
     this fence awake

Yes
Call this morning’s magic forth –
     carry it in buckets
     shade its hat with weeds

(For once make evening wait)

Bring all the hums together
     from starts and strays

While shirts with patches sing of grandfathers
and fields feel this ever tilt

Rake bells and gather in the newest
     if only once
     as so and much
     may say
